Announcing my next game: STRIGA!
Gather your backpack, it's time to delve into an underground city.
Greetings fellow wizards! Today I’m here to talk about my next OSR game: STRIGA!
STRIGA is an “Exploration Fantasy” RPG where you and your friends play as Extractionists, adventurers delving into the vast ruins of a lost underground city.
Many explore the underground structures to find artifacts and treasures, scattered in the ancient remnants of a lost civilization.
This immense underground city has never been discovered for thousands of years. And now, an earthquake opened up many entrances to this place filled with lost knowledge and lost riches.
However, something else awoke in the depths of the Spiral City, it’s the Strigae, giant warlocks who may have had something to do with the collapse of this city.
Yup, the ones on the game’s cover.
OKAY, BUT WHAT IS EXPLORATION FANTASY?
STRIGA focuses a lot on exploration. Players will have to delve into a dangerous environment that has never been discovered before, ridden with hostile creatures, but also filled with history, artifacts, and riches.
That is why Players are often referred to as Extractionists in the game. You are in the Spiral City to explore, and extract from the rubble what was lost, what was unimmaginable.
The game encourages Players to keep journals of their voyage with the Journaling system, that also helps them level up.
Game Masters instead are encouraged to create hex maps filled with interesting places to explore, with the help of some random tables included in the book.
My main goal when making this game was to encourage creativity in both Players and GMs even outside the gaming sessions, so that they may have something to remember their experience even when their adventures are over.
So exploration is key.
If you loved exploring in videogames like Elden Ring or Bloodborne, if you loved exploration stories like Made in Abyss or METRO 2033, you will certainly find something for you in STRIGA!
CAN YOU MAKE IT OSR?
STRIGA is an old-school game at heart, designed to be accessible by everyone, both fans of old-school RPGs and new players.
STRIGA is easy to learn, quick to play, and features a fast character creation, random tables, and material to make your own stuff for the game.
So I think you could say that STRIGA is an Old School Renaissance game!
Main inspirations for the game include (but are not limited to): Knave by Ben Milton, Shadowdark by Kelsey Dionne, and Cairn by Yochai Gal.
WHEN DOES STRIGA LAUNCH?
STRIGA will be crowdfunding on Kickstarter very soon. I expect around the end of April 2024, but I am not going to rush this, so a little delay could happen.
You can follow the pre-launch page here to get notified when the game launches!
But fear not! The game is 70% done, and I am assisted by my wonderful super talented artists and friends Martina Chilardi, Emanuele Parascandolo, and V.A. Metheio.
I think the end of April 2024 is pretty reasonable! If the Kickstarter goes well, in June 2024 STRIGA shall be released onto this world!
DO I HAVE TO CALL IT “STRIGA” OR “STRIGA!”?
You can use whatever you want.
Just remember
”All caps when you spell the man’s game”
